Vandalized Materials
It is believed
that one person has been responsible for vandalizing nearly 130 print items at
UM since last April. Library staff are working with the English Dept. and
Public Safety. Most distressing is the discovery of pages from a POR book (not
borrowed since 1995) in a UM book. Stuffing pages into other books is this
person's hallmark. Jerry Lund (UM) advises system libraries to check relevant
sections and titles (outlined in a summary distributed prior to the meeting).
Joyce Rumery (UM) will inform Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby Colleges of this.
Docutek eReserve Upgrade June 1st
Laura Gallucci
(SYS) will upgrade EReserves on June
1st. No required clean-up for this upgrade; however, removing anything no
longer needed will facilitate installation.
This is a
radically different version of eRes. Docutek's web site has tutorials
sufficient to bring staff up to speed on this version of eRes without having to
arrange in person training sessions. Please give Laura feedback on the
effectiveness of these training modules.
Circ On-the-Fly (OTF) Templates in MilCirc
It is now possible
to override the system defined Circ on the Fly template with a template of the
library’s choice. Please see library
support for details on how to do this.
Courtesy Notices
Judith Clarke
(AUG) has been sending email courtesy notices (i.e., reminders to patrons that
their borrowed items are about to come due). Response, thus far, has been favorable.
Libraries
interested in sending email courtesy notices should contact Laura. The
following need to be considered in the set-up of courtesy notices:
Applicable loan
rules
Notice text
Days in advance
of due date that notices shall be sent
Set-up for email courtesy notices sent to requestor patrons requires coordination by participating libraries. In particular, how far in advance courtesy notices are sent and the notice text need to be determined.
Mailing Labels
Janet Babb (OCLS) asked that libraries please include return address labels with loaned items.
Be Careful not to Send
LAW Requests to LEG
Stephanie Ralph (LEG) noted that she still receives materials intended for LAW. LEG staff must re-label and forward these items to LAW.
Telnet-Only
Greg Stowe (LAW) noted that MilCirc is not able to handle bounced email. Laura is working with UNET who recommends creating a table to redirect bounced memos.
MilCirc does not do INN Reach reports.
Next Meeting
The next face-to-face meeting will be held on Tuesday 24 May, 10:00am-2:00pm at the Systems Office in Bangor. Coffee will be available at 9:30am and lunch will be provided.
Respectfully submitted,
Jerry Lund, Fogler Library
