From Ingenta’s website:
What is
ingenta.com?
ingenta.com is
our most comprehensive multi-disciplinary document delivery service. From the
home page it is possible to search across more than 27,000 publications,
including more than 5,400 electronic journals from more than 190 publishers.
Researchers can access publications and articles as subscribers, or on a
pay-per-view basis. Publications and articles are available in downloadable
electronic format, or as fax or Ariel documents.
What is
Ingenta Select?
Ingenta Select
is a sister site to ingenta.com, offering access to Ingenta's electronic
collection. Like ingenta.com, it offers researchers and librarians access to
academic and professional publications.
What's the
difference between ingenta.com and Ingenta Select?
ingenta.com is
a comprehensive document delivery service, offering access to our electronic
collection of publications, as well as access to our larger database of
publications which are available for fax or Ariel delivery.
Ingenta Select
offers access to just our electronic collection.
Is the
electronic content on both sites exactly the same?
Our electronic
journals collection is the same on both sites. Ingenta Select also contains
some books which are not available on ingenta.com.
Why are
there two sites?
Ingenta
acquired CatchWord, our then largest direct competitor, with the aim of merging
the two companies' services into one. The introduction of the Ingenta Select
name to replace CatchWord is an important step in that integration process. We
have also been integrating our infrastructure: we have been sharing content
between both sites, and we have merged our access rights databases to ensure
that subscribers can access their subscriptions on whichever site they visit.
Why haven't
you just integrated the two sites together?
Integrating
two sites is a complex and timely process. We are undertaking the integration
in stages, starting with the invisible infrastructure. We are also using the
opportunity of integrating the sites to undertake customer research to be sure
that we are meeting the needs of our publishers, libraries and researchers. We
will integrate the sites completely when we are in a position to do so, and at
a time and in a way that is most convenient to our users.

Do I need
to register?
All guests are
free to search and browse on ingenta.com. However, if you wish to purchase an
article, register your subscriptions, or use the alerting services, then you
will need to register. You can do this by following the [register] button on
the home page. Registration is free.
How do I
register my subscriptions?
To get
started, first you must register on ingenta.com. Follow the [register] button
from the home page, and follow the instructions from there. Once registered,
you will be taken to the "manage my subscriptions" page, which allows
you to request access to your subscribed titles. We will then confirm your
access rights with the publisher(s), and contact you when this has been done.
Can I
download articles for free?
While some
electronic content on ingenta.com is available for free, most publishers charge
non-subscribers to access their content. If either you or your institution has
a registered subscription to the journal you are trying to access, then in most
instances it costs nothing to download the article. There is always a charge
for articles available through fax or Ariel delivery.
How do I
know whether an article I want is available online or as a fax/Ariel document?
Once you have
run a search, your results will be divided into online articles and fax/Ariel
articles. The tabs at the top of the page indicate which set of results you are
looking at.
Who do I
