You can find a listing of available library listservs for the state at https://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/listservs.htm. Maine InfoNet manages several lists for Minerva and MILS that are Google Groups rather than the traditional Listservs. These do require a Google account to join.
For library staff already using a work email address that uses Google as the email service provider, all you need to do is make sure you are signed into your Google account before clicking the Subscribe link on the listserv page and then click the “Ask to join” button at the top of the Google Group page. However, if you don’t have a Google account, you can follow the directions below to associate your non-Google work email address with a Google account and it’s free to do.
Personal email accounts and non-library affiliated accounts will not be approved to join the lists. If you have trouble associating your non-Google account work email address following the directions below, please submit a ticket to https://support.maineinfonet.org.
To associate an email address with a Google account:
- Go to https://accounts.google.com/SignUpWithoutGmail
- Fill out the Create your Google Account form (use your work email for the email address) and click the Next button.
- Follow any additional prompts.
- Next, you will need to verify your email address. Check your email account (look in the Spam folder, too) for the verification email.
- Once you have verified your account, you should be able to sign into your Google Account with your work email.
To subscribe to a Google Group:
- Click the subscribe link found on the listserv page.
- If you are already signed in with your Google account, you will see the button “Ask to join group” at the top of the page. If not, then you will need to sign into your Google account and then the button will appear for you to click.
- Update the information in the “Ask to join […]” screen.
- Then click the “Ask to join” link.
- Your request will then go to MIN staff to approve. You should receive a welcome message once your request has been approved.
