Project Updates

Library Journal webcast slides now available

The slides from Matthew Revitt’s (MSCS Program Manager) presentation “Using data in collaboration: Experiences from the Maine Shared Collections Strategy” are now available on the MSCS website. The presentation was given at the Library Journal’s Data-Driven Libraries Part 1: Analyzing Data to Manage Print Collections webcast on June 5th, 2013. For more information about the series and audio from the presentation see the LJ webcast series website.

MSCS retention policies published

Now available on the MSCS website is the retention scenario one which contains the criteria for the approximately 1 million titles MSCS libraries are committing to retain.

Also available is the Maine Shared Collections Cooperative Memorandum of Understanding which MSCC libraries are currently in the process of signing. The MOU provides a mechanism by which the materials designated under the agreement will be retained and made available to participating institutions and the residents of Maine as long as the need for them exists, thereby allowing participating libraries to consider withdrawing duplicates of these items from their respective collections and to rely with confidence on access to the retained copies.

MSCS libraries agree to join HathiTrust!

Exciting news for MSCS & HathiTrust! At the May 23 Maine Shared Collections Strategy Directors Council meeting the partner libraries agreed to become consortial members of the HathiTrust. This is a first for a couple of reasons: MSCS libraries will be the first in Maine to join and we are the first public libraries of this size to join. The consortium will be know as the ‘Maine Shared Collections Cooperative’.
