About Digital Maine Library

Maine’s online resources have been known as MARVEL since 2004. In 2018 the Maine State Library and Maine InfoNet introduced the replacement, the Digital Maine Library! A new name, a new logo, a new website and new technologies providing access to both old and new content.

The Digital Maine Library provides every resident of Maine with access to online resources that include a collection of full text articles and abstracts from magazines, newspapers, journals and reference. It also provides students, business people, public library patrons, and higher education students and educators the ability to use online learning tools.

How to Access

The Digital Maine Library may be accessed from any public, school or academic library in Maine. Access is also available from your home or business in Maine. Access from out of state is available with a valid Maine library card.

For more information, see Getting Started with Digital Maine Library

Funding

All content in the Digital Maine Library is made available through extensive public funding administered by the Maine State Library and significant funding from the University of Maine.

Contracts

In 2024, The Maine State Library used the state’s RFP procurement process to select a vendor for the core general resources and another RFP to establish a Pre-Qualified vendor list to obtain the best pricing from vendors for online resources not part of the core state package. EBSCO was the successful bidder for the core general services. Other content has been contracted with ProQuest, and Springer.
